Sarajevo, January 27, 2021 – For the past two nights, the Sarajevo audience witnessed the revolution at the Chamber Theater 55. The cult play THE FROG was performed as the first play during which the audience used new technological solutions with the option of choosing subtitles in English, Italian, French, Turkish and our language. Visitors were given smart glasses, designed to track the show and translate it, thus allowing the user to see the translation within the lens in real time.
In accordance with the social responsibility it stands for, Chamber Theater 55 has in this way enabled uninterrupted monitoring of performances for people with hearing problems, after in 2018 it adapted its complete repertoire to blind and partially sighted people. In addition, the goal of introducing this innovation is to enable all foreign citizens residing in our country to watch plays with subtitles in their language.
The general sponsor of the Chamber Theater 55, the company Visa, fully supported this project and provided "smart glasses", which will allow everyone to enjoy the play.
"In the era of smart solutions, it is necessary to act proactively and socially responsibly, in order to, using them, provide everyone with the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of art. The support we have provided to this project of the Chamber Theater 55, together with the company Ankora, is an indicator that with such activities we strive for the betterment of the community and the inclusion of all social groups in it ", Vladimir Đorđević, CEO of Visa for Southeast Europe pointed out.
The company Ankora also selflessly gave its support to the realization of the project, whose team of experts developed special software for monitoring, ie subtitling of performances, free of charge. From this company, they told us that they are proud to have been a part of this socially responsible project.
The first users of "smart glasses" were representatives of the Association of Deaf from Sarajevo Canton, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and foreign businessmen living and working in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Users had the option to choose the language in which they wanted to listen the play (English, French, Italian, Turkish, Bosnian).
"I was thrilled to follow the play "Frog" using smart glasses and being able to read the titles in our language. I would like to give my sincere gratitude to Kamerni teatar 55 and Visa for giving the opportunity to persons with hearing problems enjoy plays and teh program of Kamerni teatar 55", said Adriana Sidro, Secretary of the Association of Deaf from Sarajevo Canton.
The play was realized following all covid-19 safety measures.
